Membership of Norfolk OC

Norfolk OC is a friendly and thriving Club, whose main activities are the organisation of events and the promotion and development of the sport of orienteering in Norfolk. The Club is affiliated to the East Anglian Orienteering Association which co-ordinates the sport in East Anglia, and British Orienteering, the national body, which co-ordinates activities within the UK and represents the sport on the world stage.

The nature of the sport means that membership of an orienteering club is beneficial and NORFOLK OC warmly welcomes members of all ages - individuals, families and groups (Schools, Scouts/Guides, etc). At events, courses are available to suit all ages (including children) and all levels of expertise and fitness.

The Club organises around 20 orienteering events a year, and membership of NOR allows members to attend these, take part in Club Team competitions and receive our bi-monthly newsletter, as well as receiving a discount of £2 from the event entry fee. When joining the club, you will also automatically become a member of British Orienteering which confers further benefits.

When you join NOR you will also become a member of the regional association (East Anglian Orienteering – EAOA) and British Orienteering, the governing body of our sport. You can join NOR / British Orienteering as a Junior, Student, Senior or Family group at either a National or Local Level.

To determine which level of membership you require you need to consider, how far you travel to compete, the type of competitions you want to take part in and how frequently you orienteer. Any orienteer that competes in more than three events will begin to save money by joining British Orienteering, as members receive a discounted entry at events.

Which events you receive a discount at will be determined by your level of membership and your club's location. You can choose to join British Orienteering as a senior (21 or over), junior (20 or under), or as a family group. Newcomers should become a local member to start with.

The benefits of joining at each level are as follows:

Benefits of becoming a Local Member of British Orienteering:

·         Insurance cover (public liability) at events registered with British Orienteering
·         Bi-Annual Newsletter
·         Eligibility to compete in the JK, national, regional and local events
