Sunday 21 April, SUFFOC are hosting a classic orienteering event at Ickworth Park, incorporating this year’s Yvette Baker heat
Urban event in Thetford
This is the first time the town has been used for an urban event and we’re taking you from the 1100’s up to the 1960’s with our courses around town. We are very pleased that the event is part of this year’s UKUL.
It is with great sadness that we announce that Peter Carlill passed away on the 6th January at Trinity Hospice, Clapham Common. He was 66 years old on that day.
Peter was an active orienteer for most of his adult life in such diverse locations as Wales, London, one of the Baltic states and latterly in Norfolk. He was also a keen bird watcher and butterfly enthusiast.
Following tests in the summer Peter was diagnosed with one of the worst forms of leukaemia. The chemo in late August and November were not successful, and in December, he opted for palliative care. The leukaemia was so quick and brutal, that he never had the chance to return home to sort out his papers and write emails.
The funeral service will take place on Wednesday the 7th February at Putney Vale Crematorium, East chapel, adjacent to Wimbledon Common, where he did so many training runs and some good bird watching.
Afterwards at the Nightingale Pub, on Nightingale Lane between Clapham Common and Wandsworth Common. As Peter had been working in Myanmar these last few years, and was living on the Norfolk coast rather than at home in Balham, the Service will also be streamed.
Unfortunately we’ve not been able to secure suitable permission for the Pretty Corner event on Sunday, 14th January. We intend to replace it with a semi-formal event in Sheringham town. Event calendars and details will be updated as soon as possible in the New Year.
The Committee has been working on a revised club kit. We now have no more stock of the previous design and wanted a refresh.
Led by Matthew, our junior rep. we’ve approached a few suppliers and asked them to suggest designs that are not a complete removal from the previous kit and include (a version of) the Norfolk lion.
Many of you will recognise Bryzos as an O brand – they have supplied much of the kit for the JK, Six Day, etc for several years. The kit is good quality and the prices competitive.
The kit will be a mesh back unisex shirt. The cost cannot be confirmed exactly until postage and import tax is known, but we expect them to be very close to £30 each.
