Organiser’s Comments

Many thanks to everyone who helped today to make the event run smoothly.
Thanks to Michael who stepped in as Controller at very short notice, and to David for some fantastic courses. It was great to hear all your comments whilst I was standing at the finish.

Using The Forum as the event centre brought many positives: central location, great facilities and the ability to hook up to their projector to allow us to display results. It was fantastic to see so many people hanging around at the end chatting about their run and watching positions change.

Driving into Norwich this morning and seeing that there were several roads closed and being re-surfaced did panic me, but all on Courses 1, 2 & 3 seemed to cope!

Thank you for coming to Norwich, hope to see lots of you at the British Sprints in August.

Karen.

Planner’s Comments

Armchair planning had been going on for quite some time, and much of this involved a big expansion (ongoing!) of the Norwich map and a general update to much of the existing map, including updating to the most recent ISSprOM 2019-2 symbol spec – one of those never-ending tasks. With that being said I was very happy with the courses that were possible utilising the newly mapped areas north of the river and ring road. Despite the surprise road resurfacing to some crucial roads that would be crossed on several courses, very few issues were reported.

Thanks to Karen and Michael for Organising and Controlling the event, and to all the volunteers on the day.

I hope everyone enjoyed their runs around the fantastic city of Norwich and perhaps next time we’ll try to find some hills to include! If runners could try to add their tracks to RouteGadget it would be great as it’s always good to see some interesting route choices, thank you!

David.

Controller’s Comments

We had a problem getting a Controller for this event; I was asked a while back to help the Planner with his courses especially the Junior ones, because of the road network in Central Norwich. I was busy with the JK so couldn’t help much until after Easter. By that time we still did not have a Controller, so I could not see any other option than volunteer to take over. David had done some good work, and I did not need to give much advice. I think he made good use of the old city centre and most had a good choice of routes.

The Forum is a great central location, and the main shopping area is also user-friendly. As with most urban events you are not in control of the roads or other aspects such as on-going building work. Luckily I think we spotted most, and the on-the-day occurrences were also spotted, and competitors advised.

Overall, I think NOR OC should be very proud of a good Norwich urban, well done.

Michael.
