There has been one change to the MV & WV class results due a mistake in allocating a correct class. The results above & SEOUL standings have been updated, all other results are course-based and so there is no impact. Apologies for not spotting this obvious error.

    Organiser’s Comments

I was Organiser in name only really, as Alan and Mick had put in all the hard work in advance to ensure that my job on the day was really just to act as a point of contact.  So I’d like to say a big thank you to them for all their hard work.  I’d also like to thank the many volunteers who helped on the day to ensure that everything ran smoothly.  There are too many names to mention, but you all know who you are, and, as always, the Club is grateful for all your help in putting on these events.

    TempO Organiser’s Comments

We had a lovely time organising the TempO for people to enjoy at UEA yesterday.  We were pleased with the number of competitors and saw 30 people take part.

Due the high number of competitors, we were unable to offer control 6 to later entrants, which is reflected in the results.  There is also a glitch in the results as incorrect answers are meant to be red, and correct ones black, but in some clusters this has not happened.  The results however are correct.

I wish to thank Julia Paul, Anne Braggins & Dick Keighley for their help prior to the day for all the planning involved, and Anne, Dick & David for their help putting the controls out on the day.

I also wish to thank all the folk that helped with a cluster – Michael Dudley, David Coton, Barbara George, Nick Pullen, Karen Goldsworthy, Philip, Katherine, Thomas and William Bartram, and Andrew Gayford – for most it was the first time doing TempO, and they all did really well.  Thanks also to those who collected controls.

Most of all I would like to thank those who took part – without you it wouldn’t have been a successful event.  if you have any queries about the results, or any other TrailO questions please do not hesitate to contact me, either via facebook or the NOR “awards” email address (NOR who’s who).

    Leanne.

I would like to thank all the volunteers who worked on the day for us.  It was a good day.

As usual I found it a pleasure to work with Paul again. He put such a lot of time and effort into both mapping and planning the courses for this event. His thorough approach makes controlling an easy job. Also, in such a small area it doesn’t take too much time to check all the controls.

Paul even devised his own scheme for mapping the various levels of the UEA complex, which may have taken a bit of getting used to, but I think worked well. It is certainly a confusing place and most senior competitors probably found themselves on the wrong level at least once. I heard mostly compliments about the challenging courses. The only minor grumble I heard was about the placing of some of the control numbers on the map – and it was certainly difficult not to obscure some feature and we probably had to compromise, so my apologies if we misplaced one or two of them.

I hope most of you enjoyed the event, and I certainly look forward to the next sprint event at UEA – probably one of the most technically challenging areas in East Anglia!

Thanks to everyone who came, competed and enjoyed the North Norfolk sunshine at our wonderful venue, Felbrigg Park and Great Wood. The map was updated by Peter Leverington who spent many hours surveying the area, a splendid job he did. Alan did the main planning with myself throwing in a few ideas and tweaks to the courses. It is a great area with lots of contour detail and a variety of terrain which made planning fun! Alan spent time doing the computer work and I tagged the majority of control sites. It was a team effort that worked well.

I, along with Tim and Alan, put controls out on Saturday and early Sunday morning in glorious sunshine (although very cold early Sunday). Thanks to Bruce Marshall of WAOC for controlling the event and to Pat Bedder for her excellent organising. A big thank you to all the people who helped.

We had lots of good comments on the courses and some interesting route choices!! Thanks for coming and making all the hard work worthwhile!!

See you soon, may you always run in sunlit forests!!!!  ☀☀

    Controller’s Comments

The Planners were Kim Eden & Alan Bedder who made good use of the NT estate to produce challenging courses with only 49 controls. Both were away on holiday at crucial times but managed to work as a team to ensure the schedule didn’t slip.

We should also mention Peter Leverington who updated the map for today’s event. He faced poor weather and long journeys from Peterborough to get the map into shape for the event.

Thanks to all for making an enjoyable and memorable event.

It was lovely to see so many of you turn out for our first event of 2018. Horsford was a reasonably late addition to the fixtures list this season and we did not anticipate quite so many people so huge thanks to Philip and Paul for planning; Judging from the winning times on the Score it looks like they got it spot on. Many thanks also to everyone who so willingly volunteered their time at the first time of asking – you made my job very easy. Congratulations to Glen Richardson, for winning the Score course, and to Juniors Patrick Thomas, Alexander Darwin and Joe Weymouth for their top times on the colour coded courses.  My apologies to the two people who were kept waiting for a map at the changeover as a result of lack of forethought on my part in not ensuring the maps were handed out equally, though I suspect the rest was rather welcome!

    See you at Felbrigg

My thanks to Paul, Alan, Daniel and Nicky for their advice and guidance.

A special mention for Nicky who went out into the wood after the last finisher and found a lost dibber!

A big thank you for all the people who volunteered and turned up on such a cold damp day so that we could put on an excellent EAL event at Lynford. Everyone of the volunteers worked hard from Car Parking, Registration, Start, Manned Road Crossing and Control Collectors.

My thanks to Paul Garton, (the Planner) and to Sarah Mansell (Controller – SUFFOC) for all their efforts in producing good courses and dealing with the winter weather!!

Also thanks to the brave competitors who came to snowy Lynford and enjoyed our fantastic sport. Well done, as it is you that makes all the hard work worthwhile.

Merry Christmas to everyone and hope the New Year brings sunlit forests!!

It was a great pity about the weather as Paul had put a lot of effort into planning some interesting courses. I certainly enjoyed working with him again as his enthusiasm for orienteering is catching! I think that the weather made navigation more difficult as it was difficult to see vegetation in the gloomy woods. I admire all of you who persevered in the cold and wet. i certainly had the easier job of checking many of the controls on Saturday afternoon in the dry, and the rest early on Sunday morning before the precipitation got too heavy. Thanks to Kim and her band of volunteers who made the event possible, and of course Rod who had to act as my chauffeur. I look forward to working with both Paul and Kim again next year.
