CompassSport Trophy Final

It was gone midnight when weary orienteerers were fumbling for their front door keys around Norfolk this morning. Weary we were, but also happy that we had been on a grand adventure to Scotland and back. Thirty of us made the trip to the Stirling area for the weekend, in a minibus, a 9-seater, a campervan, and a few cars. We took in the Stirling City Race on the Saturday and the Compasssport Trophy Final on the Sunday.

The bare facts are that we ultimately finished 13th out of the 18 teams who qualified for the final. But this is not what we will remember. Clambering over/through knee deep bushes, heather, fallen trees, unseen ditches, bogs, marshes, and generally un-Norfolk terrain will be one of the memories. Seeing NOR top of the leaderboard for most of the morning will be another. Ben’s unwavering determination to annoy/wind up/amuse everyone else in the team will be another.

Many thanks to everyone who joined us, for helping to make it such an enjoyable and memorable weekend. Well done in particular to all those brave souls who took on this challenge with little or no previous experience! And a big thank you to Ben, who did most of the organization, recruitment and driving, and wasn’t even put off by a broken rib.

Next year’s final is in Somerset.

It all started so well!
