Organiser’s Comments

It’s a relief to be home and writing this. As a first-time Organiser I’ve had my concerns about how things would work today, but it’s gone well, and we have seen lots of happy and wet people in the woods.

The standout piece for me is just how essential our team is. We need a good number of volunteers (maybe 25?) to effectively run an event like this. We’re very fortunate to have plenty of experience which allows the Organiser to effectively delegate. That said, it’s clear that we need more people involved to ensure that we don’t burden the usual few. Something to ponder.

There’s plenty of thanks for me to offer. Firstly, to our Planner, Peter, for his courses. It’s not a five-minute job putting courses together, and it certainly seems that they were well received. Jonathan’s map rework has really helped Peter and I know how essential it is. Again, this can go unnoticed, but it mustn’t. Paul has made the event easier with his approach to Controlling and I thank him for his help. It’s been good to have another steady hand keeping us moving in the right direction.
Pat Bedder just appeared this morning and (with help from a few others) just got Registration sorted with her usual efficiency. Kimothy was a great help setting up starts and taking that part of the puzzle away from me. The others on the Start team (not all expecting to do a stint!) and our car park team are more essential pieces of the puzzle. Dan is another consistent on SI – every event, taking the time, and getting the job done wonderfully with the help from a few trusted generals. And those who (thankfully) volunteered to help with control collection – a late finish for them. The Committee has been involved in various ways (mostly behind the scenes) and my thanks to them for the support.

We have a great club and can offer some great events. With everyone helping in some way we can ensure this continues and that we’re able to offer more and/or better. Thanks to all of you who volunteer your time. It really is appreciated.
