Organiser’s Comments
Thank you to all the competitors who made it across to Mousehold this morning. Timewise a smaller event than usual, which was down to the shortness of daylight hours, but still a cracking selection of courses on offer.
Thanks also go to today’s volunteers, especially as it was a long time to be out in the cold. A special mention goes to Karen, who basically did all the organising, from sending in for permissions from NCC at the start of the year, through queries and concerns about the parking, and right up to today with her and Paul getting the day set up and running smoothly. The club is incredibly lucky to have her available and able to turn her hand to almost every role there is, and I’m appreciative of the help she has given me in getting Mousehold done and dusted successfully. Thank you.
Liz.
Planner’s Comments
Planning at Mousehold is a double-edged sword. It’s a fantastic, complex area. So much so, that the map barely does it justice. But has some particular challenges. White and Yellow are tricky owing to the huge number of unmapped paths. And I’m always on edge that our controls might disappear. Fortunately, neither of these potential issues caused us any challenge today and I’m happy to report that we’ve had another great day.
The mitigation against stolen controls was, in part, to restrict the start window. This meant that we had folk running earlier and in a more concentrated bunch. Whether it helped to detract any interested parties from tampering with controls, we’ll never know. But it certainly helped to create a nice buzz at download and got us all home a little earlier.
Feedback about the courses and the area was very positive. My thanks go to Clive (and Sally) for their help – over and above! Another special mention to super-Sherpa Mr Dave for his 06:30 start.
Another great day for NOR and all those who attended. Anyone reading this who wasn’t there – you missed out! Don’t let it happen again!
Ben.
Controller’s Comments
It was an excellent day to orienteer in Mousehold today to brush the Christmas cobwebs away. The Norfolk event teams worked well as usual today and Ben and Liz were a pleasure to work with on the event.
Mousehold is an excellent technical challenge which I think you all enjoyed. Look forward to seeing you at an event in the future.
Clive.
