    Norwich Summer Series

It’s time for our annual series of smaller events in and around Norwich:

It kicks off this weekend with an exciting urban score event in Sprowston – there is still time to sign up (but you can also email the organiser if you miss the window).

Once everyone has finished we will be starting our AGM – make sure you stay and make your votes count.

And then there is a BBQ (please bring your own BBQ food) – as well as tea/coffee and cake.

Hope to see lots of you there!

  • Peter Carlill

It is with great sadness that we announce that Peter Carlill passed away on the 6th January at Trinity Hospice, Clapham Common. He was 66 years old on that day.

Peter was an active orienteer for most of his adult life in such diverse locations as Wales, London, one of the Baltic states and latterly in Norfolk. He was also a keen bird watcher and butterfly enthusiast.

Following tests in the summer Peter was diagnosed with one of the worst forms of leukaemia. The chemo in late August and November were not successful, and in December, he opted for palliative care. The leukaemia was so quick and brutal, that he never had the chance to return home to sort out his papers and write emails.

The funeral service will take place on Wednesday the 7th February at Putney Vale Crematorium, East chapel, adjacent to Wimbledon Common, where he did so many training runs and some good bird watching.

Afterwards at the Nightingale Pub, on Nightingale Lane between Clapham Common and Wandsworth Common. As Peter had been working in Myanmar these last few years, and was living on the Norfolk coast rather than at home in Balham, the Service will also be streamed.

Our thoughts are with his wife, Christine.

  • Pretty Corner Event Cancelled

Unfortunately we’ve not been able to secure suitable permission for the Pretty Corner event on Sunday, 14th January. We intend to replace it with a semi-formal event in Sheringham town. Event calendars and details will be updated as soon as possible in the New Year.

  • EA League Results for 2019

The final standings for the 2019 East Anglian leagues have now been collated. The colour coded league results can be found here. The urban league results can be found here.

There are plenty of NOR winners:

    In the colour coded league:

    • Katharine Bartram (W45)
    • Thomas Bartram (M18)
    • Ben Bethell (M40)
    • Jonathan Gilbert (M60)
    • Rodney Freeburn (M80)

    In the urban league:

    • Marcus Richardson (Young Junior Men M12-)
    • William Bartram (Junior Men M16-)
    • Thomas Bartram (Senior Men M18, M20, M21, M35)
    • Jonathan Gilbert (Super Veteran M55, M60)
    • Peter Leverington (Hyper Veteran Men M75+)

Note: For the colour coded league, the winner must complete at least 3 events. There is no mention of a similar rule for the urban league, so whilst all the above are top of their age classes, I am not 100% sure that they are actually the “league winner”.

Mementoes will be presented at 1pm at the SOS event at Writtle on 2nd February. See the SOS website for more details.
