Note: Routegadget uses the map from 2013. There are a few differences that should not affect putting up your routes. The main changes are that on the map used for the event:

    • The OOB has been extended in the NW of the map and a strip of white forest added
    • A path has been removed that used to run North from NE of caravan park

    Comments from SI

This was the first NOR event at which people could use the new SIAC cards (contactless punching). We are the first club in East Anglia to run an event that supports this new technology. No problems were reported, so it was a successful trial.

There will be an opportunity for club members to try the new SIAC dibbers as Sportident UK are going to provide us with 30+ of the new dibbers to trial at our event at Hockham on 6th March.

Lynford is a mostly pleasant but not particularly technical area, with little contour detail, so my main aim on the senior courses was to reward accuracy, good route selection, and concentration, all at speed. As usual in a working forest, the existing map was considerably out of date and at some point will need a complete overhaul. On this occasion a partial update had to suffice, so I can only apologise for any inaccuracies. Forestry work in the two days preceding the event led to one clear felled area unexpectedly changing from very slow rough open to super-fast!

I had originally intended to use the far Northern part of the wood, but needed only one look at it to realise that that should be saved for another year, following more surveying than time permitted on this occasion. This probably led to a reduction of variety on the longer courses, although I was able to test the Brown course runners with a sprint section around the Arboretum area towards the end instead!

Many thanks to Controller Graham Wardle for spotting my many errors, and for his helpful suggestions, and to the usual club stalwarts for all their help and support.
