Organiser’s Comments
Thank you to everyone that came to Kelling today, we had a good turnout of competitors with a few new faces. We were very lucky with the weather, and it was lovely to see everyone standing around after their runs chatting.
A lot of work goes on behind the scenes to enable events like todays to go ahead which most competitors are not aware of, from permissions to use the areas, finding helpers for the day and collecting and returning equipment.
Well done to Ben for some fantastic courses and Steve for stepping in to Control the event. The Woodland Team at Kelling Heath offered great support to the event and welcomed us with open arms. Speaking to the Duty Manager during the event he was very impressed with the event and at the end of the event said it was great to see so many people using the facilities on a beautiful day.
A special thank you to all the helpers, without who the event would not go ahead. From the car park marshals Ian, Rini and David who managed to get everyone parked safely; the Norwich School crew under the direction of Glen on the starts; Matthew, Helen, Julia and my Mum who helped on registration; and finally, Neil, Alan, Dan and Ian who, along with Steve and Ben, volunteered to collect controls.
My final thanks must go to the SI team John, Daniel and John, who quietly sit in their little tent and work their magic with the SI timing of the event and producing the results.
If you feel you would like to help at our next event at Mousehold Heath on the 28th December, please get in touch.
Karen & Paul Goldsworthy.
Planner’s Comments
Firstly, apologies to those of you affected by control number 216. This was moved mid-event by someone who decided it would look better up on an earthwall rather than in the gully. It was quickly moved back to its correct position.
The useable area at Kelling (of any orienteering interest) is fairly small. Pair this with an extensive path network and my challenge was to plan some legs which would not just involve path running. Hopefully some of you got to venture off the beaten track on a few occasions. Controls were intentionally clustered along the ridge, both to make the most of those brown wiggly lines we don’t see very often in Norfolk, and to make you think fast.
I hope you all had an enjoyable run in the sun and took a brief moment to look up from your map and enjoy the views.

Controller’s Comments
I thought Ben had planned some good courses and made good use of the area available. We did struggle a bit in the southern area of the map, as vegetation has grown and more fallen trees have made more root stocks. So Ben had to tinker with the courses to make the relevant length more viable.
But we could not have been more lucky with the weather today. Yes, it was cold first thing around 0730hrs, but the sun soon warmed the forest up, and it was joyous to work within the Start team in the sun.
Hope everyone enjoyed the courses, and the hills we put in the way were not too strenuous.
See you again in the forest soon.
Steve Nobbs.
