  • Christmas MapRuns

As Mariah Carey famously sang “All I ever wanted for Christmas was a new MapRun” (or not). Karen has put together a couple of events for you to run over the Christmas period.

    Start Anywhere Score:
This course has Start Anywhere enabled. This means that you can start and finish at any control This mode is great for local people who can start closer to home and for public transport users who can start closer to their arrival point.

    Course:
This is a Score course with a 60 minute time limit. There are 40 possible checkpoints. Visit as many checkpoints as you can in the time. Each checkpoint is worth 20 points. There is a 10 point penalty for every minute or part thereof that you exceed the 60 minute time limit. There is a suggested start and finish on the map but you don’t have to use this, pick your own but it MUST be the same for both start and finish

    Map:
The map is an Open Orienteering map at a scale of 1:10,000 with 10m contour interval.

    Important Notes:
Take great care if parked on the road near a control as when you switch on the app it may register. We suggest you are 100% ready to run when you switch the app on so as not to utilise any of your precious time! If you do have a false start just end your run and start again.

Be particularly careful on this course not to run back through your start point at anytime before you want to finish as you would stop your timing prematurely – plan your route accordingly.

Congratulations to Carla Sutherland and Rini Hoogkamer for winning the final round of the Fun League held at Lingwood & Strumpshaw. Here are the full results:

It is fitting that Carla Sutherland and Rini Hoogkamer won the last event, as they are also the overall champions. Congratulations to them both. Here are the final league tables:

    Swaffham Market Place

So, the results are in for the penultimate round of the Fun League, held in Swaffham. Carla Sutherland took the win in the women’s competition, and with Katharine Bartram not running, may have taken a decisive lead in the overall competition. In the men’s competition, it was 3-in-a-row for Rini Hoogkamer. The big change is that Ian Renfrew has taken the lead in the overall men’s competition. Even though he scored fewer points than Glen Richardson, he gained more points being able to discard his lowest score than Glen.

The next round has started at Lingwood. Remember it finishes next Sunday (20th December). So, who is going to win the overall? Well I’ve done some modelling, and assuming that people are able to equal their second best score, then Carla will win the women’s and Ian will win the men’s. However, in the men’s competition, it is incredibly close, and any one of 4 runners could still win – Ian, Rini, Glen & and me, languishing in 11th place having only completed 4 runs so far. However, I think it will be difficult to get a high score for this event, as to get all 33 controls you will need to run ~15km. It is unlikley that anyone will get all 33 in the time limit and each control you do get will be worth fewer “league points”.

    Here are the results:

The scores for the Fun League are as follows:
