Compass Sport Cup – Hatfield Forest – 8th May

The East Anglian round in Hatfield Forest has been rearranged for Sunday 8th May, and entries are now open on Fabian4. They will only be open until Monday 25th April, so don’t delay. For newcomers, this is the national inter-club competition. Everyone runs the course appropriate for their age group and gets points for their finishing position. Our best 25 scores are added together across all courses. The winning team progresses to the national final. This year we are up against WAOC (Cambridge), HH (Herts) and SAX (Kent). Click on this link for further event information, and to enter on Fabian4 click here.

Following  are  details of which age-groups are assigned to each course

    9B. Orange Women W14-

At this stage, please go ahead and enter your course of choice. When entering, please make sure you enter the courses that are named ‘Class1 Brown, Class2 Short Brown etc’. Confusingly, there are also similar colour-coded courses available for non-competitive runners from other clubs, at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
If we end up having too many/few on any particular course, I may consider some tactical switches, but the first target is to get the required 25 entries to make up a full team. I may be able to offer some seats in a minibus from Norwich, so let me know if you’d be interested in that.

  • OMM LITE – CHILTERNS EVENT – 16/17 July 2016

    OMM LITE – CHILTERNS EVENT – 16/17 July 2016

OMM LITE is a fun, relaxed weekend for friends, family and clubs who love being in the hills. A perfect training weekend or chance to explore the trails. Ideal for families and groups who want to spend the day exploring the trails and the evening socialising back at camp. For more information on the event website, click here www.theomm.com/omm-lite-chilterns-2016/

All abilities are welcome from seasoned OMM veterans looking to get the training miles in to competitors new to navigation events. Open to ages 14 and over.

OMM LITE follows the same 2 day orienteering score format as the October OMM with teams choosing their own routes and visiting as many checkpoints as they can.
But with a few crucial differences:

    • Trails, bridleways & footpaths only. (not open access, due to the time of year)
Return to HQ at the end of day 1 and park next to your tent, bring everything you need for a comfortable weekend.
    • Based on a campsite with food and catering all weekend.
    • Make it as hard as you want, you can even go for a pub lunch during the race if you want.
    • OMM LITE is about experiencing the OMM mountain marathon format without some of the more gnarly aspects. Allowing you time to practice/train and enjoy the freedom that comes from the score course format.
  • Mike George and Bob Farnbank

It is with great sadness to bring news that two of our club members have recently passed away. Both Mike and Bob have been stalwarts of the orienteering scene in Norfolk for many years, both as competitors and giving huge amounts of time as volunteers.  Mike was a founder member of the club, and a well known face throughout the region, in recent years mapping well in excess of a hundred school grounds. We send very heartfelt condolences to Mike’s family and to club members Sheila and Guy Farnbank.  Bob’s funeral will take place on Monday 21st March at 2.30pm at Foulsham Church, and Mike’s funeral will be at Earlham Road Cemetery Norwich at 2:15pm on Friday 1st April.
