A small band of NORienteers took part in the CompassSport Cup Heat held by Nottingham Orienteering Club (NOC) at Sherwood Pines on 15th March, 2015. Unfortunately the event clashed with Mother’s Day and it was quite a distance from Norfolk, as we had by far the smallest entry of any club.
In many ways this was the perfect venue for East Anglians, as the forest is blocks of coniferous plantation very similar to what we find around Thetford. There is also a complex network of trenches dating back to World War 1. The courses were planned to start in the trenches, then to explore the forest, finishing with a very fast section around the visitors centre.
Best result of the day was from Ella Gilbert who finished 3rd (out of 37) on the Blue Women course. Other competitors were Laurence Ball (7/49), John Ward (21/76), Jonathan Gilbert (18/89), Mick Liston (14/82), Phil Brown (33/82). Leanne Bailey mis-punched having got lost in aforementioned trenches. Full results can be found here or here.
Next year the CompassSport Cup Heat is being held by SOS, so hopefully we will have a larger entry.
Sherwood Pines is being used for the Midland Championships next year.
