Organiser’s Comments
It was very pleasing to see such a large turnout for today’s event and to welcome newcomers who were perhaps encouraged by the beautiful autumn weather. I hope you found Ben’s courses both challenging and enjoyable.
We do try and offer limited ‘entry on the day’ at our events but it really helps us if you can email the Organiser beforehand to make sure we reserve you a map and do not run out. It is even better if you can pre-enter online and means you will avoid queuing at registration.
Finally, thanks to Peter for controlling and all the helpers who ensured the event ran smoothly.
Lost property:
A compass was found in the forest and if you wish to claim it please email me at jwardber@ntlworld.com
A pair of glasses was lost and if you found them kindly let me know so that they can be returned to their owner.
John.
Planner’s Comments
The most important job for the Planner is to book the weather. I hope you all agree that I absolutely nailed that.
In terms of the planning, it was certainly less convincing. Having taken this event on in August, I’ve not invested the time I’d normally expect, so courses felt a bit rushed. Feedback was good and folk seemed to enjoy their run – so not a disaster! The map drew some comment for various reasons, and I’ll apologise that it wasn’t up to scratch. That said, I don’t think it caused any competitive issues.
Thanks to the team (as always) for all they’ve done to make the event happen. And thanks to Peter for stepping up as Controller – appreciated.
On to the next one!
Ben.
Controller’s Comments
I think NOR did a great job in keeping this event on the schedule despite various setbacks, and the excellent turnout and equally excellent weather (I thought the Organiser got the credit for that?) certainly justified these efforts. I did not have an opportunity for a field visit in advance of the event itself, but none of the control sites looked questionable when I checked on the morning, and I think Ben’s courses made great use of the available terrain. The map clearly could benefit from an update, and some runners were perhaps unlucky in being caught out by map imperfections depending on route choice, but no single issue arose that would affect the results. None of us seem to know why some tree/rootstock features are designated by a green asterisk rather than the conventional green cross…
Peter.
