Mousehold is mainly deciduous woodland, with patches of scrub and heath land. It has numerous re-entrants (valleys), spurs, large depressions, steep embankments with a large valley cutting an arc through the heath – a very diverse area, with much contour detail.

Gurney Road, traversing SE through the area is Out of Bounds (OOB). It can only be crossed at a “Timed Out” manned crossing point at the end of the cycle track. Only Brown, Blue, Green, Short Green and Light Green cross the road. Although the road is OOB the pavement on the north side may be used. Brown also crosses a minor road (no formal crossing point)

Mousehold Heath is used by dog walkers, cyclists and families. Please be aware of cyclists as they do not stick to the paths. There are, therefore, numerous ever-changing faint trails which are impossible to map. Two areas, near the crossing point and in the south (visited by Brown) are used extensively by mountain bikers – the pits, mounds & cycle trails are marked with the brown dotted broken ground screen on the map.

There are two Out of Bounds areas. The first is on the northern area of the map and is the site of St Williams Chapel marked on the ground by a series of earth walls and corner stone posts. The second is a small area near to Zaks and is the site of a war memorial. Courses have been planned to avoid these areas.

Many people like to take photos at sporting events and we’re hoping that some of the pictures taken will be shared with us for our website or Facebook pages. We don’t ‘tag’ or give contact details on Facebook, and hope that anyone else sharing photos on social media will also take care, particularly when young people are involved. If competitors or parents/guardians would prefer that photographs of individuals are not taken or published, please notify the event officials.
