Congratulations to Carla Sutherland and Rini Hoogkamer for winning the final round of the Fun League held at Lingwood & Strumpshaw. Here are the full results:
It is fitting that Carla Sutherland and Rini Hoogkamer won the last event, as they are also the overall champions. Congratulations to them both. Here are the final league tables:
So, the results are in for the penultimate round of the Fun League, held in Swaffham. Carla Sutherland took the win in the women’s competition, and with Katharine Bartram not running, may have taken a decisive lead in the overall competition. In the men’s competition, it was 3-in-a-row for Rini Hoogkamer. The big change is that Ian Renfrew has taken the lead in the overall men’s competition. Even though he scored fewer points than Glen Richardson, he gained more points being able to discard his lowest score than Glen.
The next round has started at Lingwood. Remember it finishes next Sunday (20th December). So, who is going to win the overall? Well I’ve done some modelling, and assuming that people are able to equal their second best score, then Carla will win the women’s and Ian will win the men’s. However, in the men’s competition, it is incredibly close, and any one of 4 runners could still win – Ian, Rini, Glen & and me, languishing in 11th place having only completed 4 runs so far. However, I think it will be difficult to get a high score for this event, as to get all 33 controls you will need to run ~15km. It is unlikley that anyone will get all 33 in the time limit and each control you do get will be worth fewer “league points”.
Now that we have completed Round 6, runners can discard there worst score or catch up for a missed event. In the women’s competition, Katharine Bartram has strengthened her position at the top of the leader board. It looks like the Harleston (R5) event may be key here, as scores were generally higher and Emma Cross did not take part.
It was another win for Rini Hoogkamer in the men’s competition, but has he left it too late to make up for some indifferent scores in the earlier rounds? It still looks like a shoot out between Glen Richardson and Ian Renfrew, with Ian closing the gap to just 35 points.

The next round is underway in Swaffham. The final event will be starting on 13th December at Lingwood and is being planned by Ben Bethell.
So, Harleston is over and we had another good turnout, despite lockdown and being a bit further out of Norwich than other events.
The women’s competition, as ever, is really close. This time it was the turn of Katharine Bartram to have a “stonking” run and retake the overall lead in the league. However, Emma Cross and Pat Bedder have run fewer events, so over the next few weeks may well catch up.
Yet another winner in the men’s competition. After some surprisingly low scores in the first few rounds, Rini Hoogkamer smashed it getting all 30 controls, but incurred 20 penalty points by being just outside the 60 minute time limit. Glen Richardson maintains his overall lead, but Ian Renfrew, who missed Wymondham, has the best chance in the chasing pack.
My dark horses for the overall winners are Pat Bedder and Rini Hoogkamer.
